Electrical Appliance Testing (formerly PAT testing)

The Safety Office offers a free Electrical Appliance Testing Service for non-scientific departments within the University.
Our engineers are City and Guilds trained, and we use Seaward Testing Machines to ensure all testing is done according to the latest IET Code of Practice.
Please note, we do not test laboratory equipment or stage/studio equipment.
What to Expect:
- We carry out a combination of inspections for each item of equipment. If it passes, we place a PASS sticker on the item. If an item fails, we place a FAIL sticker on it and disable the plug.
- We then create a report that itemizes any FAILED items and advisories, including locations, and send this over to you via email.
Booking Process:
- After a booking is agreed, we will send you a Method Statement to sign. Please note, we cannot start testing until we have this.
- We will then ask you to send over a floor plan of your department and inform us of any areas where testing is not required.
Make a Booking:
- Please email the Safety Office to request a booking. Your details will then be passed to one of our engineers, who will contact you for further information.
