Role of the First Aider
A University First Aider should:
a. Be available at all reasonable times
b. Look after first aid supplies and equipment
c. Report First Aid incidents to the Head of Department, or his/her deputy or designated Safety Officer
(for further details see accidents page)
d. Attend group meetings and the University First Aid Conference
Further details on these points can be found in the forms sent out with certificates, FA1, FA2 and FA3 and comprise the conditions of pay for First Aiders who receive the honorarium.
University First Aiders are invited to occasional Group Meetings to practice and update skills and gain support through meeting with other First Aiders. The groups give practical experience which may be particularly relevant for people in the event of being called into an unfamiliar location.
First Aiders are also required to have some knowledge of their surrounding areas and departments to which they may be called. This enables a swift response to any incident.
