Procedure for calling a First Aider
In all cases of injury or ill health to persons on University premises summon a University First Aider. Everyone in the University knows, or should know, how to summon a First Aider or call the emergency services. This information should have been conveyed on induction into the University and department
First choice should be a First Aider located within the same department, failing this, a First Aider from a nearby department. Departments and institutions have been advised to maintain up-to-date lists of names of First Aiders available in the vicinity, and how to contact them. These lists should be located near telephones, first aid boxes and at other suitable places. If calling a First Aider from another department, they should be met at an easily recognisable location; this may be essential if there are access restrictions
Departments without First Aiders on their premises have been advised to nominate at least one person who will summon help, whether it be for a First Aider or the ambulance
Please note – University Security Patrollers are NOT University First Aiders and therefore should not be contacted in an emergency situation where a First Aider is required
