We run a programme of events throughout the academic year to help safety role holders stay informed, develop their knowledge, share good practice and connect with colleagues across the University
Who are our events for?
Our events are designed primarily for key safety role holders including:
- Department Safety Officers (DSOs)
- Biological Safety Officers (BSOs)
- Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPSs)
- First Aiders
These events are where we bring together those working in specific safety roles that are overseen by the Safety Office. The events compliment the training provided and ensure those carrying out these roles can maintain their knowledge accordingly. While these events are designed primarily for key safety role holders, the list is not exclusive

DSO Update
- Department Safety Officers are invited to attend
Hosted by the Safety Office and supported by subject experts. Essential updates given on regulatory developments, safety system support and refresher information
- Held in March each year
BSO Update
- Biological Safety Officers are invited to attend
Hosted by the Biological Safety team and supported by subject matter experts. Essential updates given on practices, emerging risks, and regulatory developments
- Held in May each year
RPS Update
- Mandatory training for Radiation Protection Supervisors
Hosted by the Radiation safety team and supported by subject matter experts on latest regulatory updates, key compliance requirements and refresher training
- Held in March each year
First Aid Update
- First Aiders across the University are invited to attend
Delivered by the First Aid working group alongside subject matter experts, the event provides the latest guidance, practical updates, and refresher training
- Held in June each year
